About Access Aware

Access Aware is a comprehensive online database of accessible businesses and facilities that promotes participation in community life for people with access difficulties. The database can be searched by location, keyword or category using the Access Aware Public Search

Directory listings provide information on environmental access as well as facilities, parking and toilets relevant to each business. Proximity to local public toilets and parking is also available.

Categories currently include:

• Community (halls, information services, libraries, religious centres)
• Financial and legal services (banks, building societies, financial advisors, legal advisors, taxation consultants)
• Food services (cafés, restaurants, food halls, take-away)
• Government (Centrelink, Council chambers)
• Health (doctors, dentists, pharmacies, therapists, optometrists, pathologists, insurers, veterinary services etc)
• Housing (real estate agents)
• Leisure (clubs, pubs, bars, cinema, theatres)
• Local council facilities
• Rental and hire (rehabilitation equipment, DVDs, vehicles, conference venues etc)
• Shopping (department stores, markets, retail outlets, shopping centres)

As the directories are expanded access information will also incorporate tourism attractions, accommodation and travel services, including entries from the IDEAS travel database.
